Play is powerful

Hi, I’m Erin.

Here at Willow Lane Counseling, we help individuals of all ages play.

Sounds simple enough, right? After all, aren’t we born wired to play?

While this is true, there are obstacles which can get in the way of being fully able to engage in it, regardless of our age.

Anxiety and fear
Life changes
Grief and loss
Perfectionism
Depression

Play brings life and freedom.

It helps children gain a greater understanding of their feelings, selves and relationships. It helps adults connect to their earliest experiences and younger selves, where interpersonal trauma often takes root.

Research reveals the rich therapeutic power that can be found within play and expressive therapies, and we look forward to entering into that journey with you.

Play Therapy for Children & Tweens

You know change is possible but when your child’s emotions kick into high gear it feels out of reach. In session, we’ll utilize play, expressive arts, and talk therapy to address areas of concern. These strategies are highly effective in equipping your children with skills needed to stay regulated and in control of their feelings.  I don’t give advice, rather I work to journey alongside parents, helping them sort through what’s important and what to discard.  We’ll work to find strategies to help you feel empowered in your parenting while also growing the connection you have with your child.

Play & Expressive Arts Therapy for Adults

Oftentimes, words fail to truly communicate what lies below the surface of our hearts and being.  Sand tray involves the use of miniatures to build a world that has meaning to the client.  Those who engage in sand tray therapy often find themselves making connections more quickly, as sand tray facilitates more communication between right and left hemispheres of the brain.  Individuals often find the sand trays are a representation of some element of their world, allowing them to see situations with new perspective and insight.

FAQs

I want to move forward with services.  What’s my next step?

We like to spend 15-20 minutes talking with interested individuals before booking an initial appointment.  This allows us to hear a little bit about your interest in services at this time, as well as gives us a chance to talk with you about logistics like scheduling, client portal and fees.  If you’d like to book a consultation appointment, you can fill out the contact form below. We do our best to reply within 24 hours.

How do I explain therapy to my child?

A simple explanation is the child will meet and play with a counselor.  Children often see counselors when they are sad, angry, having a hard time at school or with friends, etc.

Do you take insurance? What is the cost per session?

At this time, Willow Lane Counseling is in network with Cigna and Aetna insurance. If you have a different insurance provider, we can provide you with a superbill; however, we are unable to bill other insurances.  Session fees at Willow Lane Counseling range from $110-150 for private pay clients. Please talk with your provider about their session fee.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 50 minutes in length.
When working with children, the session will either start or end with a parent check-in.  At times, parents may spend more time in the sessions due to the presenting issue or the age of the child.  During the initial session, we meet with the child and parents together.

How long does counseling last?

The length of therapy depends on many factors. How much an individual is willing to engage the process—putting into practice strategies introduced in session, completing homework or other helpful exercises to further growth—is key. Another factor is related to the presenting issue or what it is that brings someone into therapy. Often times, there may be a recent or immediate stressor which has created distress or conflict in life; however, as therapy begins you may begin to see that the recent stressor or event is connected to other elements of the past, leading to a longer duration of therapy.
